Why Does My Cat Sleep on My Head?
And how do I make him stop!
by Rita Reimers, Multi Cat Behavior Expert
Club Cattitude staffer, Executive Director Linda Hall, recently asked me this question:
Rita,
Why does my cat sleep on my head? I love being close to my cat, Kizzy, but he constantly wants to sleep on my head! I never get the pillow to myself, and Kizzy often kneads my head, too! OUCHY!
Help,
Sleepless in Ohio
Oh yes, yet another problem I am all too familiar with personally.
My late Punkin was not happy unless he had the space above/on my head on my pillow, and he let any other cat who came near know, this was HIS space!
Now Pinky has taken over sleeping on/above my head, but that’s ok! This is what I do so the kitties can be close, yet I can sleep and move in the bed (and no claws on my head!)
I put two extra pillows above and behind the one I want to sleep on. Here is Dash kitty modeling for me! The smaller purple pillow in front is for my head, the larger purple one behind acts to support the white/print pillow in the middle, which is where the cats will sleep!
Here is an old photo of me and Punkin demonstrating this in action:
It works PURRfectly to keep your kitty close, pillow-sharing yet having some space for yourself.
I hope you will try this solution Linda, and let me know what Kizzy thinks!
Then again, there are some people out there who like the head sleepers, this is Club Cattitude staffer, Special Projects Manager Nikki Castro, with her kitty, Tiger.
After all, it’s all about our cats and what makes them happiest!

Great content! Super high-quality! Keep it up! 🙂
