Lux the 22-Pound Cat is at “The Pound”

Lux’s fate is now in a precarious state. Shelters don’t usually let people adopt an animal that has been “violent” and only allows rescues to pull an animal that has been tagged as having an aggressive history. It is my sincere hope that a local rescue in Oregon will save Lux, otherwise he has no future. Perhaps my colleague Jackson Galaxy can step in to save him. With his TV show, he may be in the best position to help Lux than any other cat behaviorist, me included.
I am simply heartsick over this situation, which was completely avoidable. And I know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other cats and dogs living through the same thing right now. I pray for them all, as I hold my own 18 former rescue and shelter cats just a little tighter today…
Every time I read something about this, I am in tears. A 7 month old baby is an adorable little creature. I’ve had 3. Have you ever had a 7 mo old pull your hair or slap you? It hurts! Of course we don’t retaliate. We move their hand and tell them “no” and use it as a teaching experience. But what if you are smaller and don’t understand that the 7 mo old doesn’t know better? What if it grabs you and hurts you and you can’t peel the little fingers back to make it stop? What if your only defense is a quick swat, with a paw that has nails? Then your “Dad” whom you love, kicks you? Yeah. I’d be ticked too!
I know, Linda. I just reached out to Jackson Galaxy. He and I met at Slimmons once, and I’ve worked with a few of his clients and vice versa so he knows who I am. I am hopeful that perhaps helping Lux publically will help educate the public and hopefully save other cats from a similar fate….
Jackson Galax is stepping in, thankfully!
