In the middle of the night!
In BARE FEET!
by Rita Reimers, Multi Cat Behavior Expert
Stepping in cat puke is not fun, but it happens to every cat owner. I was motivated to write this blog today because, well, I stepped in a pile of cat puke in the middle of the night last night!
It WAS NOT FUN!
Getting up to pee in the middle of a good rem cycle is bad enough, but along the way to the bathroom, my foot found a cold puddle of exceptionally wet squish, thanks to one of my cats. (NO I am not going to share a graphic photo or video of cats throwing up here. You all know what cat puke looks (and feels!) like.
Honestly, while stepping in the cat puke, I almost wet my pants because by that time I had to pee pretty badly!
Once I stepped in my cat’s vomit (and we all do this), I then proceeded to hobble around with my foot up, walking on my heel, trying to decide, “do I pee first, or go for the paper towels?”
Anyway, as comical and annoying as this is, and as seemingly common as it is for cats to throw up, if your cat is throwing up food or clear liquid on a regular basis, its time to see your veterinarian. Sure, all cats toss up the occasional hair ball, but if its more regular than that, it could be a sign of something you vet needs to treat.
Meanwhile, keep your eyes open, and take a flashlight with you when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so you don’t step in more cat puke!
