Healing Power of Cats
Cats never cease to amaze me! I learn something new every day that I spend with them. My biggest surprise was when I learned that cats can heal. Yes. You read that right. Cats can heal you!
Apparently this is something they have known for many years! Doctors used to suggest patients with broken bones spend time with their purring friends to help heal them.
Have you ever been to physical therapy and had them use electric stimulation therapy? The general rule is to use high frequency (50 Hz – 200 Hz) for acute pain to stimulate the sensory fibers and they use low frequency (1 Hz – 15 Hz) for chronic pain to stimulate the motor fibers. They use both the sound and the stimulation Hz to help heal people.
We all know that cats purr when we are petting them and they are happy. Did you know they also use their purrs to heal themselves? A cat’s purr ranges between 25 – 140 Hz. That’s the same frequency that’s been shown to help heal broken bones, tendons and wounds. They use that purr to help heal themselves and studies have shown it can help us too!
Now I’m not suggesting you ditch your physical therapy to lay with your cat but having a purring kitty can really help you in many ways! We already mentioned that it can help heal your bones, tendons and wounds. It can also lower stress hormones which helps with healing. That purr can lower your blood pressure and help you handle illness too!
My oldest daughter has a seizure disorder. They’ve tried so many things to help her, none of which have worked. One day she was at my house and the warning signs hit of a seizure coming. She got hot and dizzy and we knew it was coming.
My cat Kizmet, jumped up on her and began purring very loudly. It was different than his usual purr. Her seizure stopped immediately! Never had she started a seizure and not had it run it’s course … until now! The power of the purr!!!!
So make sure you thank your kitty today for all of the healing purrs you receive and if you are feeling badly, cuddle up with your feline friend and let him help you!
